Shhh...Grades 3-5 will be taking standardized tests this week. This is a big deal for the school. The building will be on a "frozen schedule." Our schedule will look different all week. Please do your best to be on time. Our lunch time may fluctuate due to testing so please do not join us for lunch this week. Kindergarten will not test but we are going to be extra quiet this week to help the big kids.
This week we will be investigating the letter Oo as in "octopus in the office." Word Wall Words are: have, saw, must. In math, we are working with addition, subtraction and numbers up to 20.

I sent home a new list of Word Wall Words last Wednesday. I found a couple by the cubbies after school. Contact me if the word wall list never made it home. I will resend it.
Book orders will come home on Monday. Please return your order by Thursday. If you choose to order on-line, our class code is GL88R. Book orders are optional.
They have extended the date of ordering yearbooks and placing ads. Look for a new order form in Monday's folder.
Check out the intensity in Room 115 when playing games. We play a lot of games in Room 115. Playing games is an excellent family activity. The benefits of playing games are taking turns, good sportsmanship, and critical thinking to name a few. The game can be purchased at Target or Walmart. But the best benefit of playing games is the communication and time spent with your child.
We are talking about that good readers make connections as they read. We've been focusing on two kinds of connections: text to self and text to text connections. Text to self is when your read something in a book and you think about your own life. A text to self connection with King Bidgood's in the Bathtub is that I have toys in my bathtub just like King Bidgood. A text to text connection is when you read something and it makes you think of another book. We are reading The Chocolate Touch. The character John reminds us of the character Choclatina from the book Chocolatina. Help your child make connections as he/she reads by talking to them about his/her books.
I have a plate in my kitchen that says Happy Everything. It reminds my family to celebrate the everyday moments. Watching the children participate in last Thursday's scavenger hunt and spring egg hunt reminded me to celebrate everything. Thanks to all the families for sending in eggs and the parents that assisted me at school. I celebrate your child and your generosity.
Information will come home this week about our zoo field trip. Contact me if you have a zoo memebership/train pass. Your price will be discounted. In addition to the field trip, we are collecting $8.00 for a Mother's Day secret. Don't ask or you will ruin the surprise.
