Take a shoebox and cover it with red paper. Give it to a child to decorate with love, kindness and friendship. Presto! You have an explosion of hearts that results in a student pulling on my clothes at the end of the party saying "Mrs. McDevitt!!! I love party days!"

On Friday afternoon as I drove home, I reflected on Room 114's party. The children laughed, cheered for one another, expressed kindness and loved life during our party. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone loved one another like a Kindergarten child loves people and life! Thanks to our room mom for organizing a wonderful party. You can't beat an afternoon of decorating cookies, musical chairs and mail addressed to a Kindergarten student. Enjoy these lovely and happy photos of some party fun by clicking here.
Classroom need: We are low on soap. Please help us keep the germs away from Room 114 by sending in a bottle of soap.
Class picture day is Thursday, February 19. Uniforms will be worn. You have until Friday to order the photo.
Lost: We are looking for a library book called Bow Wow. If you have it at your house, please return it to school.
Yearbooks are on sale for $25.
The Mixed Bag fundraiser has started for the PTA. Thank you for supporting our school.
This is a short week so send $4.00 for snack/juice. Nancy's Italian Ice will be Tuesday.
Don't forget to send in the poetry journal on Tuesday. Our poem this week will help us keep track of the value of a penny, nickel and dime. We will be practicing counting dimes this week to reinforce our skill of counting to 100 by tens. Look for our poetry journal in Friday's back pack.
In reading this week, we are investigating the letter Hh. Our high frequency words are: was, all, must. We will continue to work on identifying the main idea of a story.
In math, we are counting and recognizing numbers to 120. Can you believe that Tuesday is the 115th day of Kindergarten? We also spend time daily with addition, subtraction and understanding place value with those tricky teen numbers.

My favorite day of the school year is coming up. It is Friday, March 6. The entire school will dress up as a character from a favorite book. We will have a school-wide Book Character Parade. Every child will choose a character from a book to dress up and represent in the parade.
This is not a time to
wear your Halloween costume rather it is time to celebrate children's
literature. Families are invited to come and watch the parade. The
parade will start at 1:30 so be sure to arrive early enough to sign in
before the parade starts.
We will celebrate children's literature and the power of reading the entire week of March 2nd. Keep these dates in mind:
March 2: Bring a favorite book to school because we will have DEAR time where we Drop Everything And Read for 30 minutes.
March 3: Saddle Up and Read a Good Book: dress up like cowboys and cowgirls
March 4: Volunteers can come in and read a book to our class. Email me the time you want to come in and read.
March 5: Silly Hat Day: wear a silly hat in honor of Dr. Seuss.
March 6: Character Parade at 1:30.
I love these cowboys! We had fun on our Giddy Up and Learn field trip. Thanks to all the parents that made sure Room 114 was safe at all times. Enjoy these cowpokes by by clicking here for more field trip photos.
Thank you for trusting me with your child. Room 114 is a wonderful place and it is all because of the twenty-one children that come to school each day ready to work and play! I appreciate your support. Contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
