Goodbye January....Hello February!

Last week was busy as we started off the week with a big celebration and ended the week still celebrating!  Everyday in Room 114 is a celebration, some days are just on a larger scale.

100 days of learning goes by quickly.  We had fun counting to 100, recording 100 days on our ten frame, reading books centered around 100, performing 100 exercises and pretending to be 100 years old.  On the way to the lunch one of our 100 year old gentlemen sat down on the bench next to the office.  As I walked by he asked me if I knew why he was sitting on the bench.  His explanation was that he was a 100 hundred year old man and he was waiting to join his grandson for lunch.  Then he burst into big, big laughter.   Dramatic play is important to develop big imaginations.  Research says that children with big imaginations turn into adults with strong problem solving skills. Click here more photos from the 100th hundred day of school.

Nancy's Italian Ice is Monday for $1.00.

In reading this week, we will work with the letter "Oo."  We will spend two weeks on Oo and work on the long and short sounds of  Oo.   The high frequency words are:  say, be, did.

In math we are working with addition, subtraction and numbers between 11-19.  We are working extremely hard to understand that those numbers are a group of ten plus some more.  This concept is laying the foundation for place value.  Click here for more number photos.

We have a growing list of Aviator signs outside our classroom door with students that are in the five and ten point club.  Thank you for helping me make sure your child leaves Kindergarten with a lifelong love of books.

February means we will be getting our classroom ready for Valentine's Day.  There was a lilac colored sheet in Friday's binder that listed each member of Room 114.  Use the list to help your child address a Valentine for each classmate.  Please do not address the Valentines for your child.  Let them do it.  Please send in an empty adult sized shoe box by Thursday so that I can prep them for the children to turn them into mailboxes.

Due to your generosity with donations for Room 114's Crafternoons, the Valentine's Day Party is already funded.   We will NOT be sending out a party wish list.  All you need to do is just come to our party on Friday, February 13 at 1:30 (1:10 to help set up) and help us celebrate the friendship in Room 114.

We had fun getting into the Cowboy and Cowgirl mood at January's Crafternoon. Thanks to all the families that helped from home or in the classroom to make sure the children had a rip roarin' time!  On February 10 we will attend the Stephen Fite Giddy Up and Learn concert.  Stephen is asking the children to come dressed as Cowboys and Cowgirls.  For security purposes, please make sure the yellow field trip t-shirt is visible on the day your child comes to school dressed up as a cowboy or cowgirl.  Click here for more Western Round Up fun photos.

Book orders for February will come home on Tuesday.  Our on-line code is GL88R.  You may send in order forms and payment to school by Friday.  I will be placing the order Friday evening.  Turn around time is 5-7 days.  Book orders are optional.

We begin February with Groundhog's Day and a birthday for a sweet friend!  Sounds like a wonderful Monday!  Contact me with any questions and concerns you may have!
