Happy New Year!

The smells of Christmas are over and now returns the smell of a new box of crayons as we begin the second semester of Kindergarten.  Be sure to pack the poetry journal for Tuesday's return.  Look for our new poem in Friday's back pack.

We are starting Accelerated Reader this week in Room 114!  There is a very important hand out and red folder that will come home on Tuesday.  Read the handout carefully because it will  explain about Accelerated Reader ( often called AR) and how it will work in Room 114.  If you still have questions after reading the handout, please contact me.

Since the library books will be used for AR testing, the children will be able to check out a new library book on the days they take an AR test.  You will no longer have to wait a week to freshen up the library book selection.  AR will make sense once you read Tuesday's handout.  Be sure to read the handout and check out how the red folder has a role in AR.

Our Polar Express Day was too much fun!  Nothing beats wearing your pajamas for the majority of the day!  Lots of comments were heard about "being a grown-up" when we were drinking our beverages with a lid just "like Starbucks."  Thanks to a special daddy for supplying our hot chocolate treat! Enjoy the day by clicking right here to see more photos.

There will be a new reading information sheet in Tuesday's binder for the third nine weeks.  Look for it in the plastic sleeve that is shared with the MPS reading log.  This week we will finish up the letter Nn with the high frequency words of here, go, from

In math, we will begin the steps of subtraction. However, we will continue to work on addition for the remainder of the Kindergarten.  The important concept for your child to understand is that addition is taking two groups and putting them together that results in a greater number.  For subtraction, we want the students to understand that you have a large group and take away part of the group and the end result is a smaller group.  We will make the connection that subtraction is the opposite of addition.

The third nine weeks require the learning of your  address.  Please work on this at home.

The children were very serious in making a family secret for you.  Lots of thought went into the fabric selection and which family member would get it.  Enjoy more photos of our napkin ring production by clicking here.

I can't wait to see the children and hear about their holidays.   It will be good to be back together.  Note the upcoming dates:
1.6.2015:  Children return to school
1.19:  No school in observance of Martin Luther King's birthday
2.10:  Stephen Fite's  "Giddy Up and Learn" concert - Kindergarten Field Trip
