Note: Pull out the calendar...I've listed some important dates that you will want to add to your family's calendar. Keep reading to find the dates.
It is hard to believe that this is the final week of the third nine weeks. I will be testing word wall words on Thursday. Reading groups will be abbreviated as I do report cards testing. Homework will not be daily this week for reading. I will not be counting the word wall words after March 5 on this nine week's report card.
This week in reading we will be investigating the letter Ll as in "lobster in the lighthouse." The word wall words will be: was, came, well, are, now
We practice and practice subtraction and continue to revisit addition. We try to keep the plus and minus sign in check. Calendar math pages for March will come home on Friday. Continue to fill out the pages next week during Spring Break to close out the month.
Yearbook money is due this Friday. Let me know if you need another order form. Also, payment of ads placed in the yearbook is also due this Friday.
Nancy's Italian Ice is Monday for $1.00.
Library day is Monday. AR tests can be taken on any day of the week.
The school raised over $5,000 for Juvenile Diabetes. Thanks for supporting this cause. The children had fun being out of the classroom for the walk.

Thursday, April 5 at 11:30: Spring Egg Hunt at 11:30 am
Friday, April 6: unused (hopefully ) weather make up day: no school
Wednesday, April 25: field trip to the zoo
Friday, June 1: Kindergarten Celebration at 9:00 in the lunchroom. There will be a celebration of Room 115 immediately following the Kindergarten Celebration. Heads up: The celebration of Room 115 will be in our classroom and it will be crowded but just remember that means that Room 115 is very much loved.
For the Spring Egg Hunt, each child will need to bring to school 20 plastic filled eggs. Please do not fill the eggs with chocolate (chocolate will melt during the hunt). With a black sharpie write a number 1-20 on each egg. Each child will be given a certain number to look for during the egg hunt. This allows each child to leave the egg hunt with same number of eggs as his/her classmates. The eggs do not need to be filled with candy. Alternatives to candy might be stickers, cap erasers, little trinkets. If you do use candy, please make sure the candy is wrapped before placing it inside the plastic egg. Once the egg is filled, if it pops open, please attach a piece of tape to the seam so that the contents stay inside the egg. You may send filled eggs to school after Spring Break.
For the spring egg hunt, I will need about three parents to hide the eggs. I will also need about four or five parents to help lead a group of children (4 or 5) on a scavenger hunt to discover a spring surprise. Volunteers will need to be at the school about 11:20 and should be finished by 12:45. Let me know if you can help me out on Thursday, April 5.
We ended last week with a surprise from a leprechaun and a recipe book for making Shamrock Shakes. A nice way to end a short week.
Even though we are having fantastic weather and it feels like summertime, there is still a tremendous amount of school to be held. I will be teaching right up until the very end and squeezing every moment out of the school day. Continue to practice reading at home and keep consistent bedtimes. Keeping children focused on school becomes a little bit more difficult as the temperature rises.
