Thank you so much for supporting our classroom last week. Everyone was so prepared and excited to celebrate books! This may become your favorite post after you view the three slide shows and see the big, big smiles on everyone's face.
When we dropped everything we were doing and read for 30 minutes on Tuesday, I overheard the following comment, "This is the best day ever!" I hope the children always love to read and grow up to be adults with a stack of books on their bedside just waiting to be read.
The big news for this week is the TWO field trips: one on Wednesday and one on Friday. The notices for Friday's field trip went home last Tuesday. Please return it as soon as possible.
The concert on Wednesday is full of action. We will not be sitting in our seats in a quiet manner listening to a symphony. NO WAY! Stephen Fite, the children's artist, is full of celebrating learning and school. He is requesting the children come ready to celebrate. Here is his request:
"This year's theme is all about the most Funtastic School Day ever! Stephen will be wearing his "Funtastic" clothes for the show and of course, he wants you to join in on the fun and wear your Funtastic clothes, too. What are Funtastic clothes you ask? Well, anything exciting, silly, quirky, or to put it plainly - anything out of the ordinary! Here's just a few ideas: mismatched socks and shoes, ties with t-shirts, pants that are tooooo short, shirts with crazy things attached, funny hats, crazy wigs or hair with lots of color or gel. If your favorite letter is "B", then attach items like buttons, bows, bears and balls to your clothes. Your definition of Funtastic may be something completely different. If so, show Stephen what it is. He can't wait to see it. Even if you choose not to dress up, be sure to wear your "dancin' shoes" and your "I'm ready to have a Funtastic time with Stephen clothes." Its going to be a Funtastic time!
The Character Book Parade was so much fun! Very creative characters walked through the door on Friday morning. I wish you could have heard the squeals and exciting comments from the children as they saw their friends. Everyone was prepared! I cannot thank you enough for supporting the learning of Room 115. Your support makes my job so much easier. These pictures are precious to me but more importantly these children make up a big part of my heart!

Please note: I am unable to keep track of hats, sunglasses or anything else "funtastic." Your child can dress "funtastic" but is responsible for keeping up with his/her belongings. The yellow field trip t-shirt must be worn as part of your funtastic clothes.
I will email the parents on Monday who are chaperoning for Monday's field trip with details and times.
On Friday we will be going to the Art Museum for a puppet show on shapes and colors. This is a system sponsored field trip so there is no cost to attend. Yellow field trip t-shirts must be worn on Friday.
AR tests may be taken on any day of the week. Half of our class has made it into the five point club. Way to go Room 115! We even have students that are in the 10 point club. I expect at least one test a week.
Monday is library day.
Monday is Nancy's Italian Ice for $1.00.
Doughnuts for Dads (last names of A-L) on Tuesday, beginning at 7:15

This week we will be investigating the letter Ff as in "flower in the field." Word wall words are: his, it, this, will, went. We will also be revisiting last week's words because they got pushed aside with all of our other activities.
In math, we will add the beginning concepts of subtraction to our growing knowledge. February math calendar sheets will come home this week.
We will start working on writing our last names correctly. There should only be a capital letter at the beginning.
The poem this week is about quarters. Help your child recognize the coins and their values. Poetry notebooks come home on Fridays and need to be returned on Mondays.
There will be no school on Friday, March 16. It is a weather make up day that did not have to be used this year.
Our special reading visitors were wonderful. A huge thank you to all the moms and dads that rearranged their schedules to become a part of Room 115 for a few minutes. If you were unable to join us last week, no problem. If you give me a couple of days notice, I can usually work in time for a special reader. Just contact me and we can work something out. Very impressive by the titles of books that were brought from home. I have to admit that I wrote down a couple of titles to add to my collection of books. One of things that good readers do is recommend books to others. Obviously Room 115 is full of families that love to read.
