I love to observe children playing. Watching the children on the playground last week, they were relational, active, and curious. Not only are those their playground behaviors but that is also the learning style of a Kindergarten student. Such a busy time in the life of a five/six year old.
Please let me know by Monday morning if you want chaperone tickets for Goodnight Moon (Thursday, January 9 at 11:30), the Stephen Fite Concert (Monday, Feburary 3 at 12:00) or Henry and Mudge (Friday, Feburary 21 at 10:00). I sent an email out Friday afternoon with the names of parents who I already knew wanted tickets. Since we are securing these tickets, please know that you will be responsible for paying for them when payment is due.
Poetry journals and library books need to be returned on Monday. Monday is also Italian Ice for $1.00.
Tuesday is Spirit Night at Chappy's Deli in Peppertree. Kids (under 6) eat free so if you have nothing planned for dinner then please support our school. Be sure to write my name on the receipt and place it in the box for Blount Spirit Night.
In reading this week, we are recognizing the letters Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr, Ss. The word wall words are: the, little. Please continue to practice rhyming words at home. Our poetry journal was full of rhyming words last week! Give us a word and let us find a rhyme. Accept nonsense words because the focus is on your child understanding that rhyming words have the same middle and ending sounds.
We have about one week left to investigate 2 dimensional (flat) shapes. This week we will be learning about hexagons and comparing the shapes we have learned. We will test on 2D shapes next week and begin a study on 3D shapes (spheres, cubes, cones, cylinders.)
This week I will compile the results from the volunteer forms that were available at our cluster meeting. I plan to start utilizing parent involvement next week in the classroom. Thank you so much for loving the children of Room 114. They will be the ones to benefit from your time and dedication.
Don't forget the room parent meeting that is this week for any of you who are interested in serving as room parents. More information went home last week on a lime green sheet of paper.
Keep selling those Blount Discount Cards. You can request more if you have already sold your original three. Selling of the Discount Cards run through October 2.
Thank you for taking the time out of your evening to attend the cluster meeting. If you have any questions about what was discussed please let me know. Thank you for supporting the learning of our classroom. I appreciate your support.
The picture to the left shows the seriousness of Kindergarten. We are responsible for our learning, work with friends and try our very best. Praise your child for the hard work he/she does every day. Room 114 is a great place to work and play.
