Celebrating Books

This is a busy week at Blount.   I sent home a handout in Friday's binder so that your child will be prepared each day.  Contact me if you want to read to our class on Wednesday.  Use the photo to the right  as  a reference in case the handout did not make it to your house.  Thank you for making sure your child is ready to participate each day.  The sign for Friday's parade is to be simple.  You can attach it to a ruler for your child to carry or tie a piece of yarn and your child can wear it.

It is a review week in reading.  I will be assessing for report cards.

Monday is Nancy's Italian Ice for $1.00.  Book orders are due on Monday.  Also, Monday is the deadline to send in money for  Room 114's End of the Year Project.

Look for information soon about Room 114's St. Patrick's Day Crafteroon on Tuesday, March 17.  Set up will  begin at 1:10.  We hope you can join in on the fun.

Our poem last week focused on wiggly teeth.  We have a lot of wiggly, jiggly teeth in Room 114 at the moment.  Check out our graph from our calendar notebook to see how busy we were in February with losing a tooth.  Please make sure poetry journals are returned on Monday.

I've rearranged our math instruction.  Measurement will be moved to the end of the year.  We are currently studying shapes.  We will work with 2D and  3D shapes in this unit.  We will also continue to work on adding and subtracting fluently.  Click here for more shape photos.

Since it was cold and rainy last week, we were unable to go outside.  So we spent a lot of time moving around in the classroom.  Can't get much more movement than pulling out the instruments and starting a band of Kindergartners.  We sang, danced and played.  It was beautiful music.  Click here to view more photos of Room 114's band.

The Kindergarten classes are a couple of weeks early for March Madness but we have our own tournament.  We have a tournament of books.  We will start with 16 books and narrow it down to the favorite book in Kindergarten.  Click here for photos of the Sweet Sixteen match ups.  Our class completed the bracket for what books we think will win each match up.  Now we wait and see how the rest of Kindergarten votes.

The children are doing a great job of supporting Jump Rope for Heart.  They are excited when Coach Grant visits our classroom to hand out ducks.  Please turn in the money you have collected for Jump Rope for Heart on March 11.  March 13 is the actual date the children will be participating in the event.

It is hard to believe we are almost 3/4 of the way through Kindergarten.  The last nine weeks is very busy and the time moves quickly.  We will be working hard as we prepare for the transition to first grade.  Enjoy this last quarter of Kindergarten.  Contact me with any questions or concerns.  Thank you for loving our classroom.  I appreciate your support.
