We had a fabulous field trip to Lanark. Room 114 was very well behaved. I'm so proud of their behavior and thankful for the parents that assisted me. It was tremendous fun for our classroom to be outdoors for the day. Lanark (click on the word Lanark for a link) is open to the public the third weekend of the month. I encourage you to take advantage of spending a day outdoors with your family. Let your child know how proud you are of their hard work in Room 114. It is a great place to belong!
Information about our field trip to the Pumpkin Patch will be in Monday's binder. Hooray - there is no limit on chaperones for the pumpkin patch. The cost of a chaperone is $5.00. Do not send chaperone money to school. Chaperones will pay at the gate. Please mark on the permission slip if you plan to chaperone so that I can keep track of who is coming. No payment is necessary if you prepaid all Kindergarten expenses, just sign and return the permission slip.
Return library books and poetry journals on Monday. Don't forget that Italian Ice is sold on Monday for $1.00.
The big news for the upcoming week is picture day on Tuesday, October 8. The children may dress out of uniform. However, MPS dress codes must be followed: no sleeveless clothing items, no sandals/flip flops, no tears in clothing, and must be appropriate length.
Thursday is the deadline to order Fall Festival Wristband tickets at the Early Bird price. The Fall Festival is a highlight of the year for the students. Come out and enjoy a night of fun being surrounded by the Blount family.
I will be testing on 3D shapes this week. I will also begin report card testing.
In reading, we will be investigating the letter Tt. Sight words are: a, to. We continue to talk about nouns, especially nouns for places and things.
Classroom need: Please start saving and sending in empty toilet tissue rolls. We have a December secret that requires a lot of toilet tissue rolls. Send them in at any time.
Last week we began writing workshop. Writing workshop is where we practice that writing is just talking put down on paper. We are allowed to use curly writing (scribbles), letters (invented spelling) or book writing (conventional spelling). The emphasis is on putting our thoughts down on paper. We take our writing very seriously. To help our friends become better writers, we keep our classroom very quiet so that everyone can think. Watch as writing workshop becomes your child's favorite time of the day.
A favorite tool in our classroom is the puppets. Last week, we used puppets to tell stories. Oral language is so important in learning how to read. Using puppets to tell stories allows for lots of oral language! We even kept the puppets around as we read and reread our poetry journal. Grab your craft box and see what homemade puppets your child can make. Then be an active audience as you sit through many, many puppet shows.
